OUR HISTORY AND MISSION

The Historical Society of the United States Court of International Trade was established in 2004.

The Society seeks to preserve the history of the United States Court of International Trade and promote public awareness of the Court’s role in resolving disputes in the field of customs and international trade.

OUR PROJECTS

The Historical Society is involved in a number of projects to achieve its mission:

  • Recording oral histories of retired and senior judges and selected other personnel of the Court and members of the Bar to preserve the history of the Court in the words of those who have been charged with administering justice and making the Court function for the parties appearing before the Court. These oral histories may be transcribed in the future. Histories collected will be available to researchers and other interested members of the public.

  • Holding periodic meetings and educational events about the Court and its History.

  • Publishing information about the Court of historical significance on the Society’s website or through other means.

  • Acquiring or otherwise obtaining and helping to preserve materials about the Court and its predecessor tribunals. Materials of interest will include books, manuscripts, documents, photographs, artwork, artifacts, and other items of historical interest about the Court and its judges, and will include speeches of members of the Court. These items may potentially be included in displays at the James L. Watson Court of International Trade Building or elsewhere.

  • Providing a forum for a network of former Court of International Trade law clerks.
